FROM CONFLICT TO CONNECTION:
INTRODUCTION TO GOTTMAN METHOD COUPLE THERAPY
SCOTT WOLFE, Ph.D.
Participants will learn about Dr. John
Gottman's research findings concerning
relationships and about many Gottman
couple interventions. This workshop is
designed to help you describe the Sound
Relationship House theory and its seven
levels and use it to assess and intervene
with couples; identify the Four Horsemen
of the Apocalypse and their antidotes;
describe the difference between
perpetual and solvable problems; learn
ways of helping couples to self-soothe,
avoid flooding/escalations, and develop a
secure emotional bond and learn ways to
help couples avoid relapse and stay
emotionally connected after therapy ends.
Scott Wolfe, Ph.D. is a Certified Gottman
Couple Therapist and Workshop Leader
who was trained personally by Drs. John
and Julie Gottman in Seattle at the
Gottman Institute. His private practice is
in Columbia, Maryland.

EXECUTIVE DYSFUNCTION: HOW TO
HELP THE DISORGANIZED CHILD AND
FAMILY
LAURIE DIETZEL, Ph.D.
After defining the broad array of cognitive
control, self-regulatory skills described as
the executive functions, Dr. Dietzel will
outline a two-pronged approach to helping
children and families with executive weaknesses. Using case examples, she
will focus on appropriate supports and
interventions at home and at school as well
as the need for parent support and training.
Laurie C. Dietzel, Ph.D., is a clinical
neuropsychologist who specializes in the
assessment of children, adolescents and
adults with neurodevelopment and
emotional disorders. Dr. Dietzel is in
private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland.

ASSESSING AND MANAGING VIOLENCE IN SCHOOL AND WORK SETTINGS
KELLY ZINNA, PsyD.
Mental health professionals with increasing
frequency are being asked to determine the
violence risk potential of adolescents and
adults. This workshop offers clinical and
behaviorally based insights into the
phenomenon of targeted violence;
investigates the parallels between school
and workplace offenders; highlights the
Idea-to-Action continuum and provides
short and long-term strategies to monitor
risk and deter violence. Participants will
learn threat assessment techniques; how to
identify potential perpetrators; and how to
evaluate, manage and decease violence
risk .
Kelly Zinna, Psy.D. is a forensic
psychologist who conducts violence risk assessments of students and adults. She has authored numerous articles on school
and workplace violence as well as a book based on her experiences at the Columbine High School tragedy. Dr. Zinna has a private practice in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Child Center and Adult Services is approved by the Maryland Board
of Examiners in Psychology and the National Board for Certified
Counselors. The Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners
certifies that each workshop meets the criteria for three credit
hours of Category 1 continuing education for social workers and
associates licensed in Maryland.

its 30 th year of providing mental health services to
children, adults and families. CCAS also offers clinical
services to women with post-partum depression and has recently
started a Positive Aging Program
for older
adults at Holiday Park Senior Center.
